Cycling in Penedès

Ride through wine country, between the mountains and the Mediterranean
Penedès is one of Catalonia's most rewarding places to ride. Quiet farm lanes wind through endless vineyards, past cava cellars, Romanesque chapels and small stone villages. To the south the Garraf hills drop to the sea; to the north the skyline is shaped by Montserrat. With a mild Mediterranean climate, you can ride here in every month of the year.
Our B&B sits in the middle of it all.

A region investing in cycling

Penedès is currently building one of the most ambitious cycling networks in inland Catalonia, and much of it is right on our doorstep:
• The Eix Diagonal cycle route. A new cycle and pedestrian path of about 11.5 km is being built alongside the C-15 road, linking Vilafranca del Penedès with Sant Pere de Riudebitlles via La Granada, Puigdàlber and El Pla del Penedès. It is the first stretch of a planned cycling axis from the Anoia inland to the Garraf coast, connecting with the EuroVelo 8 Mediterranean route and the historic Via Augusta.
• 97 km of signposted routes. Eighteen municipalities have joined forces to create a network of cycle routes with around 500 signposts. Along the Camí del Riu, between Sant Joan de Mediona and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, you'll find bike repair stations and bike parking.
• New links between villages. Vilafranca del Penedès already has cycle paths to Santa Margarida i els Monjos, Moja, Les Cabanyes and La Granada, with more on the way.
• A regional cycling plan. The Alt Penedès Cycling Plan maps out the future network for everyday riders and visitors alike.

Getting here with your bike

Rodalies line R4 runs from Barcelona to Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, La Granada and Vilafranca del Penedès, and you can bring your bike on board. La Granada is the closest station to us (10 min)

Gravel Penedès

Every spring, Vilafranca hosts Gravel Penedès, a non-competitive gravel festival that combines riding with wine, food and local culture. Distances range from short family rides to a 300 km bikepacking challenge, with aid stations at wineries. Normally it's being held in the end of May.
